TITLE : How to Re-attach Forms, Reports, and Other Objects
to a Table
Paradox stores information about Paradox tables and their
families internally. If a form, report, or other family member
is separated from its original table or "accidentally" deleted
and then restored from a previous backup, the table and its
"objects" will no longer be synchronized with this internal
information. Using the DOS commands Copy, Xcopy, Backup and
Restore on individual members of a Paradox family is the most
common method of creating this situation.
Consequently, Paradox indicates the forms or reports are corrupt.
The correct way to copy a Paradox table is to use menu choices
TOOLS | COPY | TABLE. This method keeps the Paradox family
intact.
To copy a form, report, or family from one table to another, use
TOOLS | COPY | followed by the respective menu choice: FORM,
REPORT, or JUSTFAMILY. In order to be valid, Paradox objects
must be attached to a table.
DOS commands such as Copy, Xcopy, Backup, Restore or Third Party
backup utilities, can be used provided the command is used on the
ENTIRE Paradox family, not just individual members. Therefore,
when using a DOS command, use the table's name for the primary
file name and the DOS wild card operator (*) for the file
extension. Since all Paradox family members begin with the same
primary file name, this method includes every family member in
the operation, thus keeping the family intact. For example, to
copy the table "Customer" to the A drive, use the following
command.
COPY CUSTOMER.* A:\
RE-ATTACHING FAMILY MEMBERS TO A TABLE
Depending on the version of Paradox you are using, you can use
one of two methods to reunite Paradox objects with a table.
If you are using Paradox 3.5, you need Kallista's shareware
program Famfix. This program is freeware and can be downloaded
from Compuserve BORDB Section 6 General Paradox. The file is
named FAMFIX.ZIP.
Famfix is also available on Borland's Bulletin Board System. If
you have a modem, you can download this file. The modem settings

are Data bits - 8, Stop bits - 1, Baud Rate - 1200 or 2400.
After connecting to the BBS, choose <A> to select the Paradox
Area, <1> for miscellaneous files, <D> to download a file, then
enter in the name of the file: FAMFIX.ZIP. Next, choose a
transfer protocol compatible with the modem you are using.
XMODEM is a common protocol. The BBS number is (408)439-9096.
If you are using Paradox 3.0 or earlier versions, the following
method may be utilized to reunite the family. The following
method does NOT work with Paradox 3.5.
1. Copy the table to a directory using the DOS copy command.
i.e. COPY C:\PARADOX3\DATA\FILENAME.DB C:\TEMPFIX
2. Copy the (out of date?) family objects (BUT NOT THE *.DB
FILE) to the same location.
i.e. COPY A:\BACKUPS\FILENAME.F* C:\TEMPFIX
COPY A:\BACKUPS\FILENAME.R* C:\TEMPFIX
3. Again, use the DOS copy command to copy ALL of the table &
objects to a second empty directory.
i.e. COPY C:\TEMPFIX\FILENAME.* C:\TEMPFIX2
Start Paradox. View the table from within this new directory.
The table and all of its family (related objects) will again be
attached and in a usable form (not corrupted).
Go to the original directory and delete the table (and,
therefore, its family of related objects). Use TOOLS | COPY |
TABLE to copy the table and family from tempfix2 to the
appropriate directory.
